Introduction:
Positioned as a university dedicated to cultivating mid-level management and technical talents for franchise and chain management, this school’s student body is well-suited for development within the franchise and chain industry. The various departments of the university are particularly well-aligned with the industry’s needs, including the College of Business Management’s expertise in operational and management aspects of franchise systems, the College of Culinary Arts’ focus on technical and managerial aspects of chain dining, the College of Information’s specialization in the E-commerce and virtual channel realm of franchise, and the College of Design’s emphasis on the cultural and creative dimensions of franchise and chain.
Focusing on Cultivating Mid-Level Management and Technical Talents
Through investigations and interviews with industry practitioners, the university identified a shortage of mid-level management and technical talents in the franchise and chain industry. This includes roles in operations such as store managers and district managers, as well as talents experienced in operational marketing and store establishment. As such, the medium- and long-term plans of the university are centered around the cultivation of mid-level management and technical talents specifically for the franchise and chain industry, establishing a unique focus in talent cultivation.
Seamlessly Integrating Full-time Internships with Employment
The franchise and chain service industry demands talents that possess “stability” and a practical mindset. Accordingly, the university has designed a year-long full-time internship program for senior students. Companies can utilize this full-time internship period as a phase for cultivating reserve managerial personnel, effectively integrating the processes of recruitment, utilization, nurturing, and retention of talents. Simultaneously, the full-time internship allows students to accumulate practical experience rapidly and seamlessly transition into employment. This approach not only aims to achieve the goal of “Employment Upon Graduation” but also strives to achieve “Employment While Studying.”
To assist students in adapting to the workplace at an early stage, the university has incorporated workplace internships into the curriculum since 2005. Starting in 2010, it further implemented a comprehensive full-time internship system, outlined in the “Xinwu University of Science and Technology Full-time Internship Regulations.” The university established an external internship promotion committee and internship counseling groups, and in a comprehensive manner, drove the integration of year-long full-time internships for senior students. The daytime undergraduate program introduced compulsory or elective “Off-Campus Internship (1) and (2)” courses in the senior year, offering 9 credits per semester and totaling 18 credits. In 2012, four departments offered 10 classes with around 366 participants engaged in full-time off-campus internships. In 2013, a total of 11 departments offered full-time internship courses, with 709 students participating, accounting for a 69% participation rate among graduating students. By 2018, the university aims to raise the participation rate in full-time internships to over 80%, ensuring close connections with and relevance to industry manpower needs, effectively enhancing students’ employment prospects.
Connecting with Local Development, Deepening Engagement in the Film and Television Media Industry
Situated in the LinKou New Town, the university has been actively engaging with the New Taipei City Government’s New Taipei Film City plan. This initiative aims to introduce film and television-related industries to the LinKou Specific Area, and is divided into three strategic zones: the Film and Television Flagship Zone, the Film and Television Incubation Support Zone, and the International Media Zone. The goal is to fully advance the New Taipei Film City plan. The New Taipei City Film City is centered around the core film and television industry, combining surrounding film and television-related industries to create a cluster of industries along the value chain. The first level of this structure is the core cultural and creative industry, focusing on film and television creative industries such as production, directing, photography, animation, and music. The second level consists of derivative industries including audiovisual, art, merchandise, design, publishing, and fashion. The third level encompasses supporting industries such as leisure (film-themed resorts), conferences (film-themed cultural forums), tourism (film-themed ecological parks), leisure (film-themed creative hotels), and shopping (film-themed pedestrian streets), which cover a thematic lifestyle concept, maximizing the potential development of the core film and television industry.
